Superficial Hardness Testers are instruments aimed to measure the hardness of materials, especially metals. These testers are designed to apply a small, known load to the surface of a material and then measure the depth or size of the resulting indentation.
The Term "Superficial" refers to the fact that these testers apply a relatively small load compared to other hardness testers such as Rockwell or Brinell Testers.
